Gender Affirming Care

Gender affirming care is not just evaluation for surgical procedures, though this can be necessary for some folx. Gender (and sexual) minority individuals experience significantly higher rates of mental health conditions than their '“cishet” counterparts, which requires a therapist who validates identity, understands relevant medical/ legal contexts, and integrates evidence-based treatments tailored to your goals and lived experiences. Therapy can help support a variety of goals for trans and nonbinary people.

  • exploration of identity and expression

  • coping with difficult family, peer and workplace dynamics

  • processing the impact of macro- and microaggressions

  • unburdening from emotional labor and code-switching

  • navigating intersecting identities

Whether you are struggling with minority stress resulting from how society perceives your gender or dysphoria resulting from a mismatch between your body and your gender experience, you deserve mental health support from a provider who is safe and competent.

Dr. Simmons is sometimes able to offer reduced rates for readiness evaluations and preparation for gender confirming procedures to adults.
